I've got 8 cords of fire wood and 500 gallons of propane all topped up and ready to go. Bring it on!

Love a good winter. Last year was the first proper winter in about ten years. It was great! I can only hope the cold weather extends across the atlantic.

It is already hitting our north central states... Snow in August.
The west coast is still sweltering, but finally cooling, slightly.
At my age, I prefer a mild winter, with a few day of deep cold, but nothing that lasts a long time.
Based on the predictions, I might not get what I want...

We could really use a few good winters here. There is a catch 22 as far as forest fires go, more rain equals more fuel for fires, but I think generally we want to see heavy snowpack in the mountains. A real cold winter will help that a lot.

I know we talk about the weather a lot, two weeks ago we were enduring the driest summer in decades, yesterday the heating went on at work and It's still August. I'm hoping for an Indian summer as I'm camping in a couple of weeks.

I'll add that the forest management practices needs to be adjusted. Too much undergrowth is a major contributing factor to this summer's forest fires.

When I lived in California, there was also an effort to close many of the fire roads in the forest. Our mining claim road was one such effort and we caught the forest service bulldozer as it started to erect a berm across our only access road. We pointed out that the road was also the only access to the creek during a fire... They agreed that it should remain open...

    [rant on]
It was a case of the left hand not knowing what the right hand was doing. They were responding to the political pressure from "environmentalists" in Sacramento who wanted to stop gold dredgers from operating in the rivers and streams. It took them a few more years, but they got their way and now we cannot dredge for gold in California.

And... The Old Farmers Almanac has a different opinion on the weather: Mild

    2018–2019 Winter Weather Forecast

You have to read the whole article to get this because it wouldn't be "news" if it wasn't announcing a disaster in the future...

Is there a difference between the old and the new farmers almanac? How did they come to different conclusions?

    You're Hired!

Our nightly weather report (7pm, West Coast Time) is in need of a talking head who obviously knows what will happen this winter.

The pay sucks, but you get plenty of public attention!
