All of this is HYPOTHETICAL, not actually happening right now. So don't go screaming into the streets.

With China placing so many of its cities under complete quarantine, how might this effect the markets and the availability of goods here in the USA?

Optimistically, it could lead to more manufacturing restarts here in the US (also in the rest of the world). This would not be a quick process. My guesstimate would be several months at a minimum and a year or more being likely. During that time, prices would be 'volatile' to say the least because the available warehouse inventory would suddenly become very hard to replace and the prices would likely go up... Price and demand are usually directly related.

Another thing which I think is simply not recognized is that a vast amount of medicine is/was made in China. Shortages are to be expected and prices may well be painfully higher.

As Preppers, how can we address this HYPOTHETICAL situation? I'd like to read your thoughts on this and ask that you try to keep more or less on-topic and addressed to Preppers. This forum does not have a strict policy on this, so the worst that might happen is the wet noodle lashings. But try anyway, OK?

I really don't see it causing a major slow down, but I do see it adding to the shift we are already seeing. "Stuff" from China has been getting more and more expensive and less easy to come by daily. Slowly drying up.

I don't really see US companies taking up the slack either, so in some ways the price increases are almost like inflation. Slowly rising and after some time you realize you are getting less and it's costing more.

No time the the present to prepare for the worse case scenario:
    [Verse 1]
I look high, I look low
    I'm looking everywhere I go
Looking for a home in the heart of the country

    [Pre-Chorus]
I'm going to move, I'm going to go
I'm going to tell everyone I know
Looking for a home in the heart of the country

    [Chorus]
    Heart of the country
    Where the holy people grow
    Heart of the country
Smell the grass in the meadow

    [Verse 2]
    Want a horse, I want a sheep
I want to get me a good night's sleep
Living in a home in the heart of the country

    [Pre-Chorus]
I'm going to move, I'm going to go
I'm going to tell everyone I know
Living in a home in the heart of the country

Never let a crisis go to waste. Use the virus scare to motivate you to move to the country.
