Time to start eating insects? Not joking here. I believe that locust (grasshoppers to we in the US) are edible and even nutritious. Dried and ground to powder, this may save lives.

I've had a hard enough time getting my wife to eat rabbit. I think she'd draw the line at insects.

Grasshopper souffle, Mmmmm... Sticks to your ribs!
Grasshopper stuffed chicken with bacon, MMMMMM!
Wait, aren't chickens already eating grasshoppers? We need more chickens.
The Mormons did it with Seagulls!

Back on topic, such "cricket" outbreaks are cyclic. We had one, here in Reno, NV, about a decade ago. Nothing like swarms, but they were crawling everywhere. Not normal grasshoppers, but black crickets. My cats loved to eat them! We need more cats, really.
