5 named storms active right now. That is pretty impressive!

I feel bad for the gulf coast states right now.

I'll trade them for our fire danger.

It does seem like less of a disaster to wait out a hurricane at this point. At least the air is breathable over there.

Especially the weaker hurricanes. Sally is rated at 2-3 at landfall. We won't know about those which follow, until they get here.

Hurricane Sally Flooding Begins as Mississippi, Alabama, Florida Prepare For the Worst

https://weather.com/news/news/2020-09-15-hurricane-sally-mississippi-alabama-florida-louisiana-evacuations-impacts

"This is going to be historic flooding along with the historic rainfall," Stacy Stewart, a senior specialist with the National Hurricane Center, told the Associated Press. "If people live near rivers, small streams and creeks, they need to evacuate and go somewhere else."
If you live in a flood prone area, no matter where, DO have evacuation ;plans in place and practice them.

Tropical Storm Beta is wobbling like a frat pledge at his first party.

The wobbling is causing the projected after landfall track to bounce all kinds of ways.

My Stepson and his wife lives just S of IH-10 on the western side of the GHMA. Greater Houston Metropolitan Area.

The current concern is that it’s gonna Cow and Flat Rick rain. The GHMA is relatively flat so rain doesn’t run off quickly. As it drains from the slightly higher areas it starts to stack up and get deep. So you wind up with as much as 6-8 feet In some areas after a very hard rain.

A number of schools in the GMHA have cancelled classes for Mon. I suspect that since TS Beta won’t havcompletely passed thru till mid-day Wed they’ll be closed Tue and Wed also.

Son’s BO/BI decision is a little wobbly depending on the school closures. My DILaw is a teacher/admin and has to be there. Her school hasn’t closed for Mon. I suspect it will be Tue and Wed. We’re monitoring and they’ll come here if they have to BO.

The main decision is amount of rain - flooding. If projected to be GT 9” then they’ll have to leave. Where they’re at (apartment complex) has flooded at 9” over a short time.

The projections will be mo betta noonish Mon

When was the last time they went through the whole alphabet of names for storms? I don't remember that happening recently.

I hope that it Peter's out and isn't too bad for the family @WolfBrother !

It's amazing how the wobbles change path.

Mon
7A - path had dropped 40 mi South
10A - path dropped another 5 miles or so South

This time yesterday the path had shifted North from thru downtown Sugar Land then thru downtown Houston to thru halfway between Katy and Sugar Land then thru downtown Houston.

Son's area expected rain - 3 to 6 inches with spotty intense heavy downpours - along path 9+

For those of you never exposed. I was brought up hearing heavy rain described as being like a Cow pi55ing on a flat rock. The description fits.

Since making yesterday evening Beta has dropped to a Tropical Depression with winds around 35 mph.

Son and DILaw got wind and rains from the outer bands but are now on the “dry” side and are enjoying a little cooler temps.

Parts of the GHMA (Greater Houston Metro Area) East and South East and North East got enough rain to suffer minor flooding in some areas.

I go thru the tracking exercise every time because it’s WHEN not If they’ll have to BO due to tropical weather.
