For the next Contest and Giveaway I wanted to get into the Get Home Bag or GHB. To enter the giveaway all you have to do is show us your get home bag. Post up a picture if you can, but at least tell us what you have in your bag, what kind of bag you use, why you have the things you do, and anything that you think might be a good thing for others to have. Let's also add in a little discussion about what a Get Home Bag is and how it's different from a Bug Out Bag.

I'll let this one go until January 31st and at that time I will use a random number generator to pick a winner.

Prize is yet to be determined, but I promise it will be good.

    Ready, set, go!

I'll kick this off with a video that I made where I talk about my Get Home Bag and why I have the items in there that I do.

Now we can put a face and voice to a name
Nice set up from what I have seen so far. Had to go cook dinner, so I'll finish watching when done.

My real GHB is also my BOB, about 30-40 lb.. I only take it with me when I leave home for longer trips. Don't have pictures, sorry.

Most of the time I wear a smaller pack (10-15 lb.) with laptop, bike tools, water and food for one day. I'm never more than a couple of miles away with that pack.

I'm actually looking for something that you would take with you for normal trips away from home. Between every day carry and a bug out. I see how they could be similar in some cases, but not for most people.

This is a good example of a get home bag or kit in my opinion.

Here is another video from a guy named Shovelhead8. His Get Home Bag is an evolution, which I think they all should be.

Owing to where I live, and what I use it for, my GHB is somewhat different.
I rarely travel more than 5 miles from home and mostly travel to and from work. As a result what I carry is different. Generally, I could walk home in under 2 hours.
So there is a mix of every day useful stuff I carry for use at work and other things that will help out in an emergency.
To break it down, work stuff includes the cutlery, hairbrush, hand sanitiser, tissues and coffee sachets, wet wipes, spare glasses, chapstick, nail clippers and files, sewing kit, a couple of lollipops and a water flavouring sachet.
More get home related is a small FAK (to which I've just added a rebreath device), torch, poncho, small knife, credit card sized multitool, neck tube, whistle, mini pry bar, money cache tube.
If I plan to go further, I'll add more food, a couple bottles water map book and a better FAK.
This has served me well for many years and I have more than once been grateful of the contents.
Otherwise, I put together something as I need it for longer trips.

That's a great kit Sally! May I ask why the mini-prybar?

I could see it being very useful. Especially in earthquake country where a door or window could be jammed shut keeping an escape route blocked.
