Uncles, I’ve known a few like that In other families.
My Dads 3 brothers were not like that. Quite the opposite.
My Mom’s brother was not like that. Her other brother didn’t survive WWII.
Dad‘s youngest brother was an Atomic Vet - you know - one of the ones who were involuntarily exposed to ionizing radiation during the Pacific Nuke Tests.
The other two both saw combat in WWII.
One while he was pioneering the Air Force TACP career field. You know the guys on the ground requesting and directing Close Air Support. One recently was awarded the Medal of Honor - posthumously.
The other Uncle was on a Cruiser in the Pacific. His Captain was Elmo Zumwalt. Yup CINCPAC during Vietnam. They secured the first port secured in Japan after hostilities ceased.
Moms brother was in a service unit in Europe. During the Bulge he was issued a weapon and put in a foxhole. He underwent a goodly amount of artillery fire during that time. He was always a bit off after that.
