According to the author, there are three on the list of "biggest" threats. I might take exception to that as being two few in number. Still, these are definitely among the "biggies".
Note that the author does state that this list is limited to "...natural or man-made" events.

If any of these are not on you personal Threat Analysis screen, then perhaps you need to read the article and the descriptions offered by the author...

EMP is Nuclear war. There is no way around it. While the dystopian PAW that many people write about is interesting, they pretty much leave out the fact that if someone shoots of a missle or some other type of EMP device we are going to retaliate and that is going to be nukes.

The reality is much grimmer on this scenario than what is portrayed.

Anything beyond one nuclear device is going to lead to more and that scenario is very grim. I'm in a city of 200,000+ and there are simply not enough shelter spaces for more than a few thousand. Food is not available to support even a few thousand in a post nuclear world. Grim.

My plans have identified a few nearby shelters, but they are only short term and we would need to leave fairly quickly to avoid conflicts with other survivors and whatever government tries to take action. Being outside with nuclear fallout is a bad option, probably not survivable beyond a few days,, depending on the weather patterns which spread that fallout.

A monetary collapse is much more "survivable" because trade and barter are still possible (and likely). Food remains a problem because fuel is needed to transport stock from far away. We have a few farms, but they cannot supply the needs of a city our size. Depending on the season, crops may be many months away from harvest. Those who have prepped may last longer, but cannot expect the social conditions to be suitable for starting a local garden. Local Preppers need more than a year of food stocks, if they plan on remaining here.

The third "big" event, Electric Grid Collapse, is almost as bad as an EMP event. We might have fuel deliveries but not soon. That means farms and food transport will be greatly reduced for however long it takes to restore parts of the Grid. I've read analyses which make that time frame anywhere from months to decades. Add months to the delay as society grinds to a halt and people start running out of everything. Those who have the technological skills will still need food and shelter while they work to rebuild the Grid. Not a fast process.

The best option, IMO, is to have a BOL away from cities and enough supplies to stay isolated for many months. Even good Prepping will be strained to it's limit.
