You know the Prepper mantra: "Plan for the worst, hope for the best".
I do understand your point of view and acknowledge that things will be bad, in the above scenario.

Plan on it. Let's make plans which can help in a recovery situation. Let's also make plans which let us survive the period before recovery can start. The common element is the expectation of recovering.

That sounded like a description of the first few hours of a long term SHTF event. It WAS an actual SHTF event, just one which was resolved quickly. Imagine it going on for days/weeks/months. This is what we Prep for.

How many of those train travelers had spare water/food or even a flashlight?

    None would be my guess.

I find it odd we heard about Iran attacking the grid in Bahrain a couple of days ago as a trial run, then this happens. The Brits and the Iranians are fighting a war already, we just aren't hearing about it.

I wonder what will be stated, publicly, about the cause of the British power outage?

Considering Britain's nanny state policies I doubt anyone will ever know.

    Disclaim from the government:

UK power outage was not caused by cyberattack, says National Grid

I think the US needs to do the same, but MSM isn't reporting things like that British site does... No public clamoring for fixes to the grid.

Imagine if you will, you have a laptop and have hacked into the main Central and Eastern power grid. You can issue fake overload and under load alert messages to a number of control centers. You do that.

What would happen? The computer controlled breakers would NOT know the messages were fake alerts and react as programmed and open the breakers. Which would immediately cause REAL over and under loads on the up till the power balanced grid.

That in turn will cause REAL alerts to go out and all of a sudden, lots of places lose power.

I would consider such action an act of war.

Do you remember the Emergency Alert System failure that happened in Hawaii a while back?

This stuff works on more than just the grid.

I recall, I think, that there was speculation at the time of the Hawaiian EAS failure that it as a test. Who might have been actually doing the test was not identified, beyond either the US government or a foreign government. Could have been either or none (a real failure of the system).

There are so many point in this system which can be either a failure point or an attack point...
