    I can't add anything to the list in the article, but I would recommend buying some bulk tobacco and not just cigarettes. Add rolling papers if you by bulk tobacco.

    If you can find them, tobacco seeds make sense in a long term scenario. I've grown it in Washington state, so it does not, technically, need a warm climate. Finding seeds may prove difficult... I don't recall where I got mine, 40 years ago, but I recall having to search.

    One warning about tobacco, it all carries the tobacco mosaic virus which will remain in the soil for many years and which attacks tomato plants. Don't plant tobacco where you may later want to grow tomatoes....

    I would add amaranth seeds also, it is a very nutritious plant, yielding both a big seed heads (tiny seeds), edible leaves and good compost material for gardening.
