https://www.cbsnews.com/news/alaska-earthquake-today-anchorage-tsunami-alert-issued-live-updates/ Tsunami warnings too.
I just read some abou it. https://www.foxnews.com/us/large-alaska-earthquake-jolts-residents-shakes-buildings
Apparently no loss of life but some heavy damage to roads and some building damage. Hope that is limit of the how bad this was...
If this had happened in a major city in the lower 48 it would have been huge. Alaska... not too big at all.
There are advantages to not having a large infrastructure around oneself. At least there was no tsunami.
This story has a map showing the area effected by the quake. Compare to a map of the lower 48 states. It was big.
It was huge. If this had been in Seattle it would have been catastrophic. I'm really happy to see that the folks up there are handling it well.
That whole area has been getting regular quakes since the 1964 big one. I think they are used to it now and take it in stride. I read that only one road out of Anchorage is open now and, it being winter, repair will be slow. I hope people in the surrounding area are prepped for this and I expect that they are. I think the harbor is still open and they have regular barge shipments from the lower 48.
