Looking for a way to make an easy cache, I picked up one of these 120mm ammo cans to try out. There are some things that have to be done before they can be used, so I'll go over that in the next post. 20180511_070153.jpg

The isuse with these things containers is that they come with a piece inside that takes up quite a bit of space and isn't very useful for what I have in mind. To remove it is fairly simple, take the bolt out of the bottom and it slides right out. Since I didn't want to leave a hole in the bottom I took the tabs off the bottom plate and put it back in so that it would hold the bolt in place. There is also a donut that comes inside, a circular piece of hard foam, and I tied some strings to that and made a tool for getting things out of the bottom. 20180511_070406.jpg 20180511_070413.jpg 20180511_074026.jpg 20180511_074136.jpg 20180511_074305.jpg 20180511_074658.jpg 20180511_074754.jpg 20180511_074914.jpg

Adding to the discussion, not all caches need to be buried, so with that in mind this might make more sense. Another reason why someone might use this instead of PVC is due to the fact that not every hardware store has PVC of this size. Checking my local hardware stores they did not have any PVC in sizes above 3". Looking on the Internet I found that these bigger sizes are easy to come by, but not really cheap by any means.

Other reasons that I have seen people have for using these is as a safe. Dig a hole, insert ammo tube and pour concrete in around it. I could see this being pretty handy.

Once I figure out exactly what I am going to do with this one I will post a follow up.
